On family holidays, many wishes have to be combined: fun, action and adventure for the little ones, enjoyment and relaxation for the big ones. It's good to know that the wishes of all family members are fulfilled in the Zell am See-Kaprun region.
Whether summer or winter: there is no way around Schmidolin! The cool dragon on the Schmittenhöhe challenges the children at the baptism of fire and with his fire chairs. Schmidolin also helps little skiers to get started. Equipped with skis and snowboards, young and old alike will make the Funslope XXL on the Schmittenhöhe unsafe.
The Lechnerberg is perfect for the first swings. The beginners' hill is home to several children's ski schools. For the more experienced kids, the Kitzsteinhorn glacier ski area offers snow parks and action runs.
Do not miss out on tobogganing fun either: from Köhlergraben, you can take the 1.5-kilometre-long toboggan run which leads through the Schmittental to the Hotel Waldhof in Zell am See. In Gries/Bruck an der Glocknerstraße the Rodelexpress takes you up to the Kohlschnait mountain inn. With the toboggan, the 3 kilometre-long toboggan run - illuminated until midnight - takes you back again. In the neighbouring Wildkogelarena, you can race down into the valley on the longest toboggan run in the world. In summer you can take the corn runner from the valley station of the Maiskogelbahn right into the town centre of Kaprun.
It's not so easy to decide on a trip: in addition to the museum buildings, the Salzburg Open-Air Museum surprises the little ones with a historical classroom and a butterfly adventure trail. In the Salt Worlds in Hallstatt, parents and their children make many exciting discoveries. On a hike with the whole family along the banks of the Klammsee lake, the kids learn exciting facts about the local animal world. A playground for the little ones, a fitness trail as well as a Kneipp facility guarantee that there is no time for boredom. The hard-boiled ones refresh themselves in the glacier melt water of the lake. The Ferleiten Wildlife and Adventure Park with its 200 wild animals from the Alps and all over the world is also a special experience for both young and old.
The fascinating world of dinosaurs is within reach in the Triassic Park in Waidring near Lofer. While in summer the stalactite cave, the low ropes course and the Triassic Trail are fascinating, in winter there are the Triassic Funline for young kids and the Snowpark Steinplatte for the older ones. The bike park in Leogang is fast and action-packed. On the Riders Playground, children and adults practice on safe terrain before venturing out on the more demanding lines with their bikes.
Should the weather let you down, then the indoor playground in Maishofen offers little ones many opportunities to let off steam. Or how about a wellness day at the Tauern Spa? "Kinder SPA Kidstein" is the name of the special area for children, with plenty to discover.
In autumn, the pedestrian area of Zell's old town belongs to the kids: Zelli's Kinder-Stadt-Fest offers a colourful programme of bouncy castles, carousels and children's entertainment. At the annual Daddy's Day Charity Event at the ice rink in Zell am See, a huge play paradise will delight little children's eyes. Little runway racers are eagerly participating in Schmidolin's Winter Olympics. And at Christmas time, the children's bakery at the Sternenadventmarkt, the glow-worm run and the Christmas storytelling theatre are just as much part of the fun.
