Winter sports amidst snowy mountain scenery, surrounded by glaciers and lakes, exceed the dreams of active vacationers and nature lovers.

The Kitzsteinhorn is probably the most prominent peak of the Hohe Tauern. It is also the only 3,000-meter peak in the province of Salzburg whose high alpine world can be experienced throughout the year.

The 3K K-onnection - Salzburg's first tri-cable railway

The new cable car Kaprun-Maiskogel-Kitzsteinhorn connects the centre of Kaprun with the Maiskogel family mountain and the Kitzsteinhorn glacier ski area. Winter sports fans can comfortably cover twelve kilometres and 2,261 metres in altitude - a superlative experience!

Kaprun and Kitzsteinhorn: skiing experiences for the whole family

Families at the Mountain Hotel Luis also appreciate less spectacular facilities: on the baby slope with lift right behind the hotel, little winter sports fans make their first turns in the snow. But also adults can broaden their know-how with the experts of the ski schools in Kaprun. In private lessons or group courses, beginners polish their skiing techniques on perfectly groomed slopes.

If you would like to combine the wonderful skiing experiences with an excursion, take a closer look at the pistes of Saalbach, Leogang and Fieberbrunn. These skiing areas are only a short drive away from Kaprun.

Schmittenhöhe - pure winter fun

Winter sports enthusiasts can also reach Saalbach/Hinterglemm, Leogang and Fieberbrunn via the extensive network of pistes in the Schmittenhöhe. With the ski pass 3 Premium, 408 km of slopes can be used. The Schmittenhöhe impresses with a variety of ski slopes for all levels and preferences. After mastering flat and more demanding slopes, a stop at one of the cosy huts is just the right thing. The youngsters are in good hands on the Kids-Slope, in the Snowpark or on the Funslope XXL.

Cross-country skiing around Kaprun and Kitzsteinhorn

Cross-country skiing fans also get their money's worth in the Zell am See-Kaprun ski area: the glacier cross-country ski run at 2,900 metres above sea level is a meeting place, especially in autumn and spring, when the tracks in the valley close. Beginners, on the other hand, will be happy with the Schlossloipe in Kaprun. Connoisseurs will look forward eagerly to enjoying magnificent views of the Kitzsteinhorn on the Brunnwiesloipe or the golf course track in Zell am See. On the night cross-country ski run, which is illuminated until 10 p.m., not far from the Mountain Hotel Luis, you can experience the magical winter landscape in the moonlight. The 60 km long Tauern Trail, which connects the villages of Altenmarkt, Radstadt, Eben, Flachau and Wagrain, is just a short trip away.

Experiencing nature up close: snowshoeing and ski touring

Snowshoeing in front of the wonderful scenery of the Kitzsteinhorn and near Lake Zell will give you an ultimate sensation of slowing down. Guided snowshoe hikes on the Schmittenhöhe and Kitzsteinhorn are also possible. Among other things, snowshoe hikers pass the legendary ICE CAMP, a work of art made of ice and snow.

Ski tourers will find the marked ski tours in the Kitzsteinhorn glacier ski area or on the Ronachkopf ski tour mountain in Thumersbach, and are thus very close to the winter mountain landscapes.

Wintertime is toboggan time!

What would the cold season be without tobogganing fun? The illuminated toboggan run at the Berggasthof Kohlschnait in Bruck an der Glocknerstraße is the perfect place for pure snow fun. On the Maisiflitzer it goes down on rails over the Maiskogel, into the valley year-round. Waves, jumps and spectacular roundabouts make the adrenalin pulsate in your veins. The world's longest illuminated toboggan run can be found in Bramberg on the Wildkogel. If you like, you also have the possibility to jet through the snowy landscapes around Kaprun and Zell am See with a snowmobile.
